Edo's opposition Peoples Democratic Party fired off a pointed demand on Sunday for Governor Monday Okpebholo to unpack the details of a freshly inked $250 million investment pact with a European trade body, slamming the announcement as an "embarrassment" shrouded in secrecy just as the party installed its refreshed leadership.
Publicity secretary Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, in a statement, pressed for clarity on the September 25 framework with the European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries, touted by Okpebholo's camp as a three-to-five-year boost for state growth during a Glasgow summit. "We will no longer allow opacity in fiscal dealings," Osa-Ogbegie declared, vowing scrutiny on abandoned Obaseki-era projects and wasteful spending.
The call landed amid the PDP's executive handover, where Tony Aziegbemi reclaimed the chair, flanked by deputies Victor Enoghoma and zonal vice chairs Monday Osaigbovo, Adekunle Oboh, and Richard Anetekhia.
Henry Tenebe steps up as secretary, with Ogbeide Ifaluyu-Isibor on organizing, John Adodo handling finances, and Benedicta Attoh leading women.
Osa-Ogbegie put the ruling All Progressives Congress on notice, challenging its spokesmen Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie and Information Commissioner Paul Ohonbamu to "brace up" for tough exchanges. "Where policies uplift, we support; if oppressive or deceptive, we stand with the people," he affirmed, balancing respect for authority with watchdog duties.
As Edo navigates post-election tensions, the PDP's probe tests Okpebholo's early pledges for transparency, with outcomes that could shape fiscal trust in a state hungry for investment amid inherited debts and stalled initiatives.
