Umahi: Tinubu's Inclusion of South-East Renders Biafra Agitations Obsolete

Nigeria's Minister of Works David Umahi has urged Igbos worldwide to abandon Biafran secession demands, declaring that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has delivered the “inclusion and equity” long sought through agitation.

Speaking on Saturday during an inspection of the Enugu–Anambra road projects, Umahi told stakeholders: “Biafra was never about breaking Nigeria; it was about being counted in Nigeria. Through inclusion, equity and concrete development, Ndigbo are no longer spectators—they are co-authors of Nigeria’s future.”

He pointed to South-East gains under Tinubu’s government, including key ministerial appointments, policy influence, and major road contracts previously neglected. “The push for secession stemmed from neglect and underrepresentation, but today that narrative has changed dramatically,” Umahi said, commending governors such as Peter Mbah for aligning with the federal center.

The minister framed agitation as outdated in the face of equity: “When justice finds a people, agitation loses voice.” He urged the region to rally behind Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, positioning inclusion as the antidote to separatist sentiment.

Umahi’s remarks underscore the administration’s effort to recast national integration in the South-East, where historical grievances have fueled decades of dual nationality and agitation.
