Russian Strikes Hit Odesa Twice in One Day; Trump Says Peace Talks “Going OK”

Russian forces carried out two separate strikes on Odesa within 24 hours, damaging port facilities, a ship, and energy infrastructure, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper.

The overnight assault disrupted electricity supplies, while a second strike late on Monday targeted port areas, sparking fires and leaving tens of thousands without power. Emergency crews responded, and no casualties were reported.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba accused Russia of systematically targeting Ukraine’s maritime logistics.

Ukraine’s energy ministry confirmed that Russia also attacked energy sector targets nationwide on Tuesday, prompting emergency outages in several regions, including Kyiv.

In Moscow, a car bombing killed Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of operational training for Russia’s armed forces and a veteran of campaigns in Chechnya, Syria, and Ukraine. Investigators are probing possible Ukrainian intelligence involvement, though no group has claimed responsibility. Sarvarov is the third high-ranking general assassinated in the Russian capital since the 2022 invasion.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said peace talks are “going OK” following envoy Steve Witkoff’s “productive” discussions in Florida with Ukrainian and European representatives. Trump declined to confirm whether direct calls with Volodymyr Zelenskyy or Vladimir Putin are planned, but stressed “we are talking.”

Zelenskyy described initial U.S. drafts as “quite solid” while noting compromises are inevitable. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov characterized parallel Miami talks as a “working process,” seeking clarity on U.S.-European-Ukrainian proposals compared to past negotiation frameworks.

Separately, Zelenskyy confirmed Russian troops forcibly took residents from Hrabovske, a border village in Sumy region, despite longstanding neighborly ties.

The developments highlight the dual track of escalating battlefield strikes and tentative diplomatic overtures, underscoring the war’s complexity as it enters day 1,399.
