Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has unveiled a new online platform designed to revolutionize drug integrity testing and visa clearance procedures, offering faster, fraud-resistant services that aim to curb illicit trafficking and promote public health.

The Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System (DITViCAS), launched Tuesday at NDLEA headquarters, allows users to apply for mandatory drug tests from home, book appointments, and receive electronic certificates within days. The system integrates background checks and automatically flags positive results, linking individuals to rehabilitation centers for follow-up care.

Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), represented by NDLEA Secretary Shadrach Haruna, described the initiative as a “paradigm shift” aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “With DITViCAS, we end bottlenecks… Apply from home, book appointments, get certificates on the spot,” Marwa said, emphasizing the platform’s efficiency and security.

The portal—accessible at www.drugandvisa.ndlea.gov.ng—features interfaces for partner agencies and accredited private laboratories, enabling seamless verification and real-time monitoring. NDLEA officers are equipped with dashboards to detect forged documents, helping dismantle syndicates that exploit travel channels for drug trafficking.

Marwa also announced the expansion of drug testing to students and couples, framing it as a proactive, non-punitive measure. “It’s an early-warning system… no one left without care,” he said, underscoring the agency’s shift toward prevention and rehabilitation.

The launch comes amid rising substance abuse rates in Nigeria, with over 10.8 million citizens affected, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). DITViCAS aligns with global standards set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), marking a significant step toward full automation of NDLEA operations.

As Nigeria intensifies its fight against drug abuse, the digital rollout highlights the growing role of technology in modernizing enforcement and promoting public health—one click at a time.
