The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) has launched a second enumeration exercise to identify additional property owners affected by the October 26 demolition in Oworonshoki. Held Monday at Oloworo Palace in Kosofe Local Government Area, the initiative registered over 100 residents who were missed in the initial compensation phase, which covered 79 households.

The exercise aims to verify damage claims and ensure timely payouts to ease the burden on displaced families. LASURA spokesperson Adedeji Akolade confirmed the process will continue Tuesday, with submitted forms and documents undergoing swift processing. “We’re documenting the extent of losses to determine fair compensation,” Akolade said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparency.

General Manager Oladimeji Animashaun commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for honoring his compensation pledge, and credited Special Adviser on E-GIS Dr. Olajide Babatunde and Permanent Secretary Gbolahan Oki for their coordination. “The governor has fulfilled his word – we appreciate his resolve,” Animashaun stated, urging affected residents to register promptly.

The midnight demolition, which targeted structures in the Coker and Ojulari areas, sparked public outcry over its timing and the adequacy of support. LASURA reiterated that the clearance was necessary to reclaim waterways for improved drainage, and assured that verified claims would be compensated.

Residents expressed cautious optimism. “We lost everything overnight; this registration is a step, but we need the money soon to rebuild,” said Mama Aisha, a homeowner. Officials confirmed that the next round of payments will follow verification, in line with the state’s broader urban renewal agenda.
